If You Want To Get Closer To Jesus ... This Is The One!

If you're looking for a book that explains the basic teachings of Christianity in a highly accessible and relevant way, this is it! Pastor Paul takes you on a rewarding journey through the fundamentals of the faith: the dos and don'ts God spells out for us, the Good News that Jesus, humankind's Savior, did all the required dos in perfect love and stayed away from all the don'ts for the same reason as our Substitute, then sacrificed Himself on a bloody cross and rose again victoriously so we could be forgiven and receive heaven as a free gift, the role of Baptism, Holy Communion, and Prayer in the life of a Christian, how God's family, the Church, is supposed to operate, with truth and love. Each step of the journey, Paul shows how these key doctrines bring us closer and closer to Jesus, drawing us into a rich, intimate, eternal relationship with Him. This is an excellent resource for teaching a new member's class, a refresher course for long-time members, or for your own personal spiritual uplift and edification. It would make an excellent gift for those new to the faith!

Good practical introduction to Luther's Small Catechism for a lay audience

We recently finished Pastor Paul's book in an adult confirmation class. It is a great concise overview of topics from Luther's Small Catechism, written for a lay audience and/or those coming from a non-church background. The strength of the book lies in the theme of relationship and how the 6 parts of the catechism can all be viewed through this relationship lens. Another strength is found in the additional personal reflection / small group study questions (with further verses to explore). Working through this book in a group setting is probably the best way to get the most out of it. While most of Luther's translated writings are still very accessible and practical to read today, this book could be a good introductory bridge for someone who is not familiar with the Small Catechism or Christianity in general.

This is a great book by a great pastor! From those seeking to know who Jesus is for the first time, to those who have followed him for years, this book really helps present key concepts in a down to earth way.
