Mack's request for help tracking down a stolen Renaissance helm seems like an easy job, and a good way to get to know the mysterious man.

When Aunt Vesta dies under suspicious circumstances, Cady finds she needs to call on Mack's unique talents. Art consultant Cady Briggs has a bit of a crush on occasional employer Mack Easton, owner of "Lost and Found," a company specializing in the recovery of lost or stolen artifacts. She has only talked with him over the telephone and exchanged e-mails, but it's enough to make her think of him as her Fantasy Man. Naturally, she leaps at the chance to meet him in person, even if he needs her expertise in a case involving a questionable antique helmet missing from a tacky Las Vegas "museum." Mack turns out to be every bit as exciting as Cady imagined, and he is as interested in her as she is in him. Complications abound Cady's aunt recently left her niece with a business she doesn't want but can't turn down, Mack's teenage daughter isn't thrilled to discover that her widowed father has a sex life, and Cady is beginning to have doubts about her aunt's "accidental" drowning. This is romantic suspense at its most enjoyable, enhanced by Krentz's (Flash, Soft Focus) trademark humor and quirky characters. Fans will be very happy with this entertaining and delightful read. Convinced that Vesta was trying to tell her something about an impending merger between Chatelaine and rival gallery Austrey-Post, Cady enlists Mack to help uncover the truth. They discover that Austrey-Post has been passing off as genuine antiques some pieces of furniture that are counterfeits. Who is behind the forgeries? Is it Jonathan Arden, who uses psychic powers to authenticate old furniture? Or Randall Post, who was once married to Cady for nine days? Or Stanford Felgrove, CEO of Austrey-Post and Randall's obnoxious stepfather? The fact that Cady and Mack pose as a couple in order to deflect attention from the investigation only serves to reinforce their growing attraction. Picture Michael Douglas as the sensitive (he's a widower) yet virile Mack, and maybe Michelle Pfeiffer as the feisty yet vulnerable Cady. Finally pulls it all together

I thought this book pulled together a lot of recent trends I've noticed in her recent work (edgier, more focus on mystery, slightly more 'ordinary' h&h) and made it all work. I like the lack of major drama in the past lives of the main characters. He is a widower but she wasn't murdered by the bad guy ('Sharp Edges') or die in a dramatic plane crash ('Family Man') - and his first marriage was a good one. His daughter is a normal teenager. The heroine is successful and good at her job without being nauseatingly so. All in all nice people one might like to meet, and yet they still manage to solve the crime, hold their own in fights, and set the sheets on fire!
The recent 'Shady Lady' also has regular people characters, but somehow they're a little too ordinary. Mack and Cady manage to be normal but still transcend the ordinary enough to be belivable as hero and heroine.

Cady Briggs knew Mack Easton only from the internet. He owned an online company, Lost And Found. He mainly traced stolen artifacts for owners and museums when the owner could not go to the police for one reason or another. Mack hired her as a consultant often since she had excellent connections in the art world. They met face-to-face when Mack hired her to help him track down a stolen antique helmet.
Everyone said Cady Briggs was a lot like her Aunt Vesta Briggs. They both had a fine eye for art and antiques, fought panic attacks, and had bad luck with men! But everyone also knew that Cady liked consulting jobs. She wanted nothing to do with Chatelaine, the gallery Vesta ran. Sylvia, Cady's cousin, was a natural born CEO and was a shoo-in for inheriting Vesta's shares when she passed away. However, one week before Vesta died, she changed her will to give all the stocks to Cady. Vesta made it clear that she was considering canceling a bidding for Chatelaine to merge with Austrey-Post as well.
Cady did not believe Vesta's death to be a swimming accident. Thinking foul play and the concerns Vesta had of the merger, she called Mark for help. He would pose as her "soon to be fiancée", and help track down a killer that she could not prove existed. It quickly became apparent that more than one scam was going on! And Cady was in the hot seat!
***** Jayne Ann Krentz has often proven to me that I am right to consider her one of the best Modern Contemporary authors of our time! This latest book will take a place of honor among my favorites in my "Keeper" shelf! There is not way I could recommend this book highly enough! *****

Mack Eason, owner of LOST AND FOUND, uses art consultants like decorative art expert Cady Briggs, to help recover treasures for an exorbitant fee. However, after exchanging sensual communication over the phone and through E-mail, Mack and Cady meet for the first time in Vegas over business. His Vegas clients run a two-bit museum that could never afford the cost of services of either Mack Or Cady. Because they are friends, Mack wants to help them regain and sell a very valuable stolen helmet. To Cady, meeting her "fantasy man" makes the trip worth everything.

When Cady's octogenarian Aunt Vesta, owner of a highly regarded gallery, suspiciously dies, Cady suspects foul play tied to a merger that her beloved, but eccentric relative put on hold. She asks Mack to help her investigate Vesta's death, not realizing there is danger from a killer. While they begin to fall in love, they remain unsure what their partner feels.

Renowned by fans and critics for years for her powerful romantic suspense novels, Jayne Ann Krentz will satisfy her toughest reader with her newest entry, LOST AND FOUND. The story line is fast-paced, filled with action, and strong characterizations. Essential (and only) guide on starting agile teams

Liftoff is a wonderful little book that probably isn't getting enough attention. Regrettable. The authors Diana Larsen and Ainsley Nies are skilled facilitators and coaches and they got to write a book about starting agile teams or projects. Diana Larsen is known for her excellent Agile Retrospectives: Making Good Teams Great and Liftoff is similar in its concreteness. It is one of these books that, as a facilitator, you take with you and browse and at times simply copy to experiment with the ideas in it.

Probably one reason the book is not getting the attention is deserves (as far as I can see) is its title. The authors chose to use the term "liftoff" which is a new term over more descriptive titles such as "starting agile teams" or "agile chartering". They seem to have done so to not limit the scope and try to include all kind of kick-offs in the book. Personally, I think a bit more focus would have improved the book. Personally I think it should have been called "agile chartering" as more than half of the book is about that. Anyways, liftoff it is :)

The book consists of 2 parts and a bunch of appendixes. The first part is about Liftoffs in general and the second part about Agile chartering. The first part contains five chapters which describe what a liftoff is, what kind of liftoffs there are and how to plan, design and improve using liftoffs to launch teams.

The second part is about chartering. The authors define the PAC model, which stands for Purpose, Alignment, and Context. These are the parts that need to be clarified during the Agile Chartering session and each of these has its own chapter. The appendixes give example charters of a few different projects.

This book is a useful book. It isn't a wow book that changes your way of thinking, but it is a book that tells you very concretely how to do something. In this case, it tells you how to facilitate effective liftoffs and charters. As far as I know, it is the only book of its kind and it is so concrete and small that you take probably want to take it with you every time you are facilitating a liftoff. Browse it again, steal some ideas and experiment. From that perspective, this book is highly recommended for people who want to facilitate the launch of new teams. Four stars.

A proper beginning is useful...even in "agile"

I see it all the time in my agile coaching. Teams who, in their effort to be agile and get going, start sprinting/iterating too soon--before they know where they're going. It feels good to be moving, developing working software--so often this is the attraction. It's an intoxicating combination of feel good forward progress on the part of the team and leadership.

But more times than not, the team started too soon. They're building software but they haven't connected it towards the customers higher level problems & needs--so they're not delivering the value the customer desperately needs. Nor can they communicate what they'll deliver for a "release" and when.

They should have listened to Stephen Covey - about "Beginning with the End in Mind".

And they should have read this book. Diana and Ainsley have written what I think is the seminal work on how to properly START agile projects. They put a focus on the front of the line that is necessary and welcome.

Should every agile project perform a Liftoff? Probably not. But for the vast majority that should...this is the guide for how to get your goals established and feet underneath you before you start iterating towards delivery. How to charter to connect the team to the business and have a clarity around expectations.

And it's effective as a project recovery mechanism as well, for when you've started too soon but realize that fact and want to realign your efforts. So new liftoffs and recovery liftoffs are covered.

For me, if you're an agile coach, product owner, scrum master or literally anyone who is charged with starting agile projects, this book is a must read. And if you're a traditional project manager who is familiar with the notion of Project Charters, then this book will help map that knowledge to agile contexts. Either way, let's start Beginning with the End in Mind.

I really liked it, however

I read this whole series... I really liked it, however, I could not give it five stars. I went to look at her other books and realized she is a "chapter" book writer and each "chapter" is $2.99 each and I have seen some authors with more than a dozen "chapters" I am not paying that much to read a book not to mention the time you have to wait in between chapters. I guess it is a way to sell more books and make more money. This series alone would have cost $38 which is ridiculous (in my opinion). I have been running across these authors who write "chapter" books like this series.... a lot lately.... the first one I stopped reading when I realized there was close to 30 and more to come. I was able to read this complete series in another chapter book author's latest chapter. The only reason I read this other author's chapter books is because her books are on Kindle Unlimited. None of this author's books are KU which means I will not be reading anymore of her books unless it is a bonus in another book. As I stated it was very good but not worth $38. For this reason I am only giving 4 stars.

Great Read, minues the price

I read this entire series in a box set that featured multiple authors that was available via KU. The story was excellent! It was well thought out and well executed. The writing style was strong even with the few errors it had, the characters were well developed and believable, and the storyline made sense. With that said ... I am glad I read it via KU, because no way I would have paid $2.99 per part for the total of 13 parts. The 13 parts altogether equal up to approximately the length of 4 novels, and while these are good, if I look at it from a novel standpoint, they aren't worth $10 each, sorry.

I really enjoyed this series. Each couple's story and their fight against Club Alpha was well told. I just don't have the patience to wait so much time before the next book came out, in addition to trying to keep up with the number of books after 10! Another author is on book 26 and I will never again read anything from her. Kelly Favor is a good write, I just think she needs a good proofreader.

For cooks interested in simple yet refined cooking that veers to the deluxe (Tower's favorite hamburger is made with truffles), this cookbook is a must.

Organized by courses and food categories, the book begins, provocatively, with "Delights and Prejudices," a compendium of often-wry observations. (Tower favors using a microwave, for example, but only for reheating food--"[so used] it changes the food less than any other method," he says--but is against the pervasive roasted garlic purée, which he finds "indigestible.") Tower is also a culinary reader and dishes like English Autumn Salad (adapted from Robert May's 1685 Accomplisht Cook) and The Anchovy Toasts of Austin de Croze (from his 1931 What to Eat and Drink in Paris), among others, reflect that pursuit. Like a culinary Zelig, Tower seems to have popped up during key moments in modern food history. He was chef at Chez Panisse in the 1970s and is often credited with inventing "California cuisine." This Renaissance man of the culinary world (he's also the author of New American Classics and a columnist for the San Francisco Examiner) has an opinion on everything, from frying eggs to aging game birds. An initial chapter of basic instructions is appropriately titled "Delights and Prejudices." Tower is admirably specific, even when it comes to something as simple as a Chicken Club Sandwich, yet not afraid to suggest shortcuts, as in Spit-Roasted Chinatown Suckling Pig Pizza, where he tells the reader simply to purchase the pre-cooked pig. Occasionally recipes veer into fussiness, as with Rich Mussel Bisque with Shrimpmeat Garlic Toasts and Nasturtiums, and Tower is not immune to the author-chef curse of calling for highly specific ingredients that mere culinary mortals may have trouble laying their hands on, as in Figs with Wild Thyme Honey in Red Wine and Lapsang Souchong Custard. On balance, however, exciting, innovative recipes such as Leatherwood Honey- and Sichuan Pepper-Glazed Rack of Lamb with Eggplant Pasta and Green Goddess Olive Oil and Lemon Sauce dominate. Donald Sultan's vivid still-life paintings are a perfect match to Tower's lively style, and if sometimes recipes get out of hand, well, that's to be expected from this kind of creative mind. As the original chef at Alice Waters's Chez Panisse and then the chef/owner of San Francisco's acclaimed Stars restaurant and its offshoots, Tower greatly shaped what came to be known as California/New American cuisine. His first cookbook, New American Classics, was published 15 years ago; his new book is a celebration of "the new American culinary tradition." Tower includes favorite recipes from throughout his career, chosen from both the contemporary dishes he is known for, such as Green Zebra Heirloom Tomato Salad and Sea Urchin Souffl‚, and his interpretations of some "enduring classics," like Poached Turbot with Oyster Hollandaise. A witty and erudite writer, Tower is a man of strong opinions; "Delights and Prejudices," the first chapter, presents his philosophy on food and cooking, and recipe headnotes and other reflections throughout the book expand on that introduction. Although he has been less visible since he closed his restaurants (he is currently the host and writer of the PBS series America's Best Chefs), anyone interested in American cooking will want to read this. A Little Too Complicated

A little disappointed in this......you may like some recipes, but most are compicated and call for very esoteric ingredients. Not for family cooking, maybe for a special ocassion when you have unlimited time, but then, there are a lot of better books out there for that.

Lavish Cookbook with Style and Flavor

Truly a magnificent work, with its creative, succulent dishes accompanied by unique art of Donald Sultan.
Ones eyes are dazzled while the palette starts salivating for the exquisite food.
This is "new-old" food served in new-new way. What this means one can tell by comparing and preparing dishes such as "Savoy Cabbage with White Beans and Mushroom Butter" "Grilled Bacon-Wrapped Salmon with Basil Mashed Potatoes and Sweet Red Onion Sauce" "lavender Honey-Glazed Duck Breast with Blackberries and Water Chestnuts" "Burnt Passion Fruit Curd" or "WHite Peach and Jasmine Ice"?
This guy is superstar with superchef following such as Trotter, Batali, Boulud, et al.

If you're into serious gourmet, this guy is a "go-to."

Rich Field of Culinary Controversy and Technique

For those of you who are not swayed by emotional arguments, here goes the real review.
Jeremiah Tower has packed more useful, controversial, and scholarly material into this book than any three other celebrity chef cookbooks combined. There is much here with which many respected chefs would take issue, but that just adds to the pleasure of reading the book.
One issue on which I disagree with chef Tower is in replacing some French terms for common cooking items or practices with ?American? translations. As a cook, I will never have a thousandth of the credentials of Monsieur Tower, but I am something of an expert on language, and Tower is simply wrong on this point. For example, he substitutes the phrase ?aromatic vegetable mix? for the French term ?Mirepoix? meaning, 1 part chopped onion, 1 part chopped celery, and one part chopped carrot. Tower adds a bay leaf to the standard definition, with which I have no argument. The mistake is twofold. First, he is substituting his new usage for all vegetable mixes, including soffrito, sofregit, and picada. Well, each of these terms means something different from mirepoix, yet he is subsuming these different meanings under a new word. Second, this new term is unknown to his audience, while mirepoix is learned upon first opening one?s first book on French cooking. On more than one occasion while reading Tower?s recipes I had to scratch my head and think twice when he said ?aromatic vegetable mix?. If he would have used the word, mirepoix, I would have sailed right through that text with no confusion whatsoever. The same argument can be made for the terms ?Au Jus?, ?Bouquet Garni?, Mesclun?, and ?Duxelles?. Tower?s claim has some merit when it comes to using ?blue? in place of ?bleu? and ?cream? in place of ?Cr?me?, depending on context. So Tower is not a linguist, but he is a cook. His following section on the meaning of conventional English cooking terms is entertaining and dead on accurate.
Tower?s recommendations on standard techniques are impeccable, and there are a lot of them. His descriptions of brining, sweating, toasting, parboiling, and pureeing are fussy enough to make Alton Brown turn green with envy. The little essay on brining brings out another rich dimension to this book in that it identifies the source of current enthusiasm for brining to be Jane Grigson?s book ?The Art of Making Sausages, Pates, and other Charcuterie?. Scholarly references like this may not mean much to some, but to me they are positively titillating. The book is packed with references to works going back to the seventeenth century, with a heavy concentration on the French classics by Careme, Escoffier, and Curnonsky. Unlike most other writers, it reminds the reader that there is not a whole lot in cookery which is really that new. My great regret on this theme is that Tower neglects to add a bibliography to this book so that one does not have to page back through the text to find the exact name of a fondly remembered reference. See his book ?California Eats? for an excellent bibliography.
Tower?s great hero among contemporary writers is Richard Olney, famous primarily as the editor of the Time-Life ?Good Cook? series and as the author on some of the most influential books on French cooking in English. Tower praises Olney for his search of quality, simplicity, and proper scholarship. It is clear that Tower has acquired the same values. However, some people, myself included, may be very puzzled by what the author calls simple. I will forego any long discussion of this until I read Olney?s famous interpretation of ?simple? in French cuisine but I will say that cooking is hard work and what is simple to Jeremiah Tower is just not so simple to amateurs like me. This does not, however, lessen the value of this book, it enhances it. Great results require exacting procedures and great respect for ingredients.
Tower?s attitudes about techniques and materials fits exactly into one of my favorite Mario Batali doctrines. If you make small improvements in the quality of your ingredients and your techniques, you will surely end up with dishes superior to those done without attention to these little details. While Mario and Tower have an enormous respect for one another, I am sure they have a lot of differences. One which stands out is Tower?s preference for fresh tomatoes in making tomato sauces. I?m afraid I have to side with Mario on this one and be happy with canned San Marzano tomatoes.
One of the most instructive of Tower?s obsessions is his recommending the mortar and pestle and the food mill over the blender and the food processor. I am certain he is right on these points.
Tower?s selection of recipes is largely from the French. All recipes show the same attention to detail. Some recipes and sidebar discussions give more than usual attention to ingredients like lobster, lettuce, and truffles, among others. Some recipes are truly simple and the novice should not dispair that the book has nothing for them. The instructions on stocks are dead on accurate. This man knows what he is doing. An interesting twist to this is that in more than one place, Tower prefers water to stock in order to bring out the tastes of the primary ingredients of the dish.
The book has no photographs of completed dishes, and I did not miss them. The impressionistic paintings by Donald Sultan add an ample visual quality to the work. The index is flawed. There are two references to Julia Child and I found at least three different references.
This book is a must for people with any interest in cooking.

U.K. Crochet terms, not American

I've waited and waited for this to be published in English. It finally came out, I ordered it and unfortunately the translating is horrible and it's in UK crochet terms. Normally this wouldn't deter me, but these are not very easy patterns and I think I would be easily confused. I went to the author's website and emailed with some questions and didn't get a response so I'm returning this to Amazon. It is not as described.
