Steve Fenton has worked on large-scale JavaScript applications for over ten years, from online trading portals to cloud contact centers to health care decision support. He has been a vocal supporter of TypeScript since its release and wrote the first book on the TypeScript language in October 2012. As well as working full time in the health care industry, Steve has had an academic renaissance, first completing a national certificate in psychology and then enrolling in a distance learning course at Harvard. This is a GREAT book.

This is a GREAT book... I am a looong time JS and AS3 developer.. so it was easy for me to pickup... never the less, the Autother goes beyon typescript, he explains basic design patterns and lots of tips on how to properly use Typescript.
Now that Angular 2.0 was announced to be powered by Typescript (instead of ATScript), I think this book will get lots of traction.

It is a good solid book for a sound understanding of Typescript and along the way you will pick general JS tips such as variable hosting getting overridden from global etc..

this is one is a keeper...

I have read way more programming books than I can remember. This is one of the best!!
It may seem a little heady at first (ch2) , but it is on the money and very practical if you are going to
get to a professional level (no pun intended) with TypeScript. The writer is very clear, very articulate and
thorough (nothing left out) without making you feel like you are soaking up stuff you can't use.

I teach from this edition

I first read this edition in a summer workshop for AP teachers at Carnegie Mellon in 1987. It worked for me then, and works for me now. I have used it the last 2 years in a public school International Baccalaureate course. Corngold's introduction, extensive endnotes, letters by Kafka and others, and selections from criticism are a great resource in helping students understand not only the various meanings one can derive from the novel itself, but also in helping them having in one place different ways of approaching a novel; that is, from various critical angles (biographical, psychlogical, historical, etc.), from viewing primary documents and, of course, head on. What a world Kafka creates. Who cares what it means, in the end. But this edition is helpful in giving kids their first solid clobber of explication. I also use Peter Kuper's comic novel (search for it here) to add one more perspective, though I have to say, Kuper's interpretation is easily my least favorite. A bit over the top on the grostesqueries, and not enough of Kafka's unspoken but powerful energy. I'm sure there are other critical editions which are fine too. Try them as well.

There was good agreement between the experimentally obtained maneuver results and those produced with the computer simulation model for the single-axis case. Lastly, the trade-off between settling time and thruster fuel is discussed, as well as the variation of gains required to achieve maximum performance for a desired slew.

It follows a dumpling who doesn't look at all like the other dumplings in the restaurant. This dumpling (in actuality a steamed bun) is therefore "in a lonely only category. Of one. Uneaten and ignored." The dumpling meets a cockroach who looks past the dumpling's unusual appearance. They go on adventures throughout the restaurant, and the dumpling begins to feel accepted as it notices the beauty around it for the first time. The tables are turned when the diners spot the cockroach and the ugly dumpling comes to its friend's rescue. The minimal text meshes well with the illustrations and at times becomes a part of the action. For example, in a busy kitchen scene, the letters in "hiss" curl like steam from a wok and the letters in "thwak" seem to jump from the cleaver. This narrative moves quickly, and the cheerful visuals do as much to tell the story as the text does. About the Author
Stephanie Campisi is an Australian-born, Portland-based author and dumpling aficionado. She has combined her passion for food and love of wordplay into her debut picture book, The Ugly Dumpling.

Shahar Kober is an award-winning illustrator of over thirty children's books. He lives in a small town in northern Israel with his wife, two boys, a dog, and a cat. Shahar graduated with a degree in illustration from the Shenkar College of Design in 2005. Currently, he is a freelance illustrator and teaches illustration for animation at The Neri Bloomfield Academy of Design in Israel. His work has been published in the USA, the UK, France, Germany, South Korea, Singapore, and Israel. In addition to The Ugly Dumpling, Shahar has also illustrated Chicken in Space (HarperCollins 2016).

A book about friendship

Dumplings..and steamed buns. Yum. Loved around our house. As a family who has been to China & has adopted one child & going for #2...this is a very sweet book about a "dumpling" and a cockroach who become friends. Very sweet book about friendship.

It's a rather short book with lots of pictures. More geared toward early elementary age, but a sweet story nonetheless.

Ugly Duckling retelling

In this dumpling-themed retelling of the Ugly Duckling, set in a Chinese dim sum restaurant, a dumpling who is ugly, uneaten, and ignored, develops self-esteem with the help of a cockroach. Just like the ugly duckling discovers he is really a swan, the ugly dumpling discovers he's not a dumpling but a steamed bun, just like all the others. But when his friend the cockroach is found in the buns, the ugly dumpling discovers that perhaps he's not just like the other buns after all, and perhaps that's a good thing. A humorous story with a serious message of tolerance for diversity. Highly recommended.

Delightful story.

When I saw the trailer for this book, I wanted it. Reading the book was even better! I love the language, the twist on a beloved tale, the characters and also the unlikely friendship factor. It also has a very satisfying ending that makes me want to go back to the start and read it again and again. The illustrations are delightful and I love the colors used and the portrayal of the actions and characters. I absolutely recommend this book.

Best Brittany travel book

The definitive travel book on Brittany. At 632 pages it is certainly the most comprehensive. While most travel books assume that tourists do little more than travel from city to city to see cathedrals and museums, Barbour's Brittany gives equal time to the countryside. He is opinionated and tells you where the most beautiful parts are Brittany are to be found and what to avoid. We planned our three-week trip to Brittany around his recommendations and were elated. Our landlord (we utilized the book's information to rent a gite) was amazed that we had been to places he considered to be the most beautiful spots when they require traveling along unpaved roads without signposts. We were delighted to find that the bargains he recommended were terrific. For example, we followed his advice and went to a Breton festival in the remote village of Spezet, which was outstanding. The bargain hotel in Spezet he recommended was excellent. He not only gives his opinionated and accurate recommendations, he provides actual prices as opposed to the vague pricing categories of most other guides. We followed his advice and avoided the congested touristy locales as much as possible. When we were unable to avoid them, it was painfully apparent why he was warning his readers away. If you're going to Brittany, buy this book. Considering the high cost of travel, it's foolish not to have at least one good guide book and this is the best by far of the four I bought.

Philippe Babour's Brittany is guide with an obsessive attention to detail and content. Of the six hundred or so pages, probably 50% to 60% are filled with history and lore. The book scores high marks as a companion guide to The Miclelin Green Guide or to the 60 or so pages on Brittany and Nantes within the Lonely Planet's guide to France. Barbour logically arranges his sections geographically, connects them together, and contrasts them. Both The Lonely Planet and Barbour have nice sections on housing-hotel areas and specific hotel recommendations, and Barbour does the best. The Lonely Planet is, unfortunately, focused on one-star places and below, but Barbour casts a wide net.
Barbour's Brittany is a solid 4-star performer in the area of trip planning. However, it cannot stand-alone and be the only guidebook to Brittany that you will ever need. Different from Michelin's Green Guide, there are neither maplets with driving instructions of the areas nor photographs. It makes sense to get a visual glimpse of the area if you have never been there before, but Barbour paints only lavish word pictures that don't really prioritize one area in comparison to another. He has very strong opinions and is not shy conveying them to the reader. This generally presents a nice style and personality to the book. Occasionally, however, Barbour becomes mean-spirited and makes direct attacks against specific people and places. Discount that, and it is a fine book to plan your trip to Brittany.

A Great RPG Sourcebook For Games Set In Historical China

Cubicle 7 has been putting out some great content for BRP over the past few years. Better than Chaosium itself if I have to admit it.
I bought this as a adjunct to their excellent Dragon Bones sourcebook. Mystic Wuxia games and historical China are at my fingertips.
Like their excellent Rome book for BRP this one is a great sourcebook on an historical setting. Light on mechanics and big on gameable setting elements.
It isn't a complete game unto itself though, you'll need the Basic Roleplaying core book from Chaosium (if they still sell it...) or the free BRP quickstart (again, it's hard to guess where Chaosium is headed these days, I'd grab it quick if its still available).
With this, my old copy of Bushido and GURPS China I feel I'm well equipped to run an authentic-ish game of legendary Chinese heroes.

Very Comprehensive

I purchased it as a required text book for a Construction management class. I feel like the illustrations help make the reading come to life. I wish that there were more online training tools to help like study guides and blogs to discuss the topics. Otherwise, the book is good and I will not trade it in, I plan to use it as a resource for my future career in interior and architectural planning.

Save your more money and purchase the 3rd edition versus the 4th, the information is almost exactly the same and the price is much more reasonable.

Booked looked kinda used but wasnt expecting otherwise. The price was excellent, a lot cheaper than buying or renting from the college. The teacher said this book has a lot of good info for schedulers and project management so hopefully will get good use out of it.

About the Author
Jon Rogawski received his undergraduate degree (and simultaneously a master's degree in mathematics) at Yale, and a Ph.D. in mathematics from Princeton University, where he studied under Robert Langlands. Prior to joining the Department of Mathematics at UCLA, where he is currently Full Professor, he held teaching positions at Yale and the University of Chicago, and research positions at the Institute for Advanced Study and University of Bonn. Jon's areas of interest are number theory, automorphic forms, and harmonic analysis on semisimple groups. He has published numerous research articles in leading mathematical journals, including a research monograph entitled Automorphic Representations of Unitary Groups in Three Variables (Princeton University Press). He is the recipient of a Sloan Fellowship and an editor of The Pacific Journal of Mathematics. Jon and his wife Julie, a physician in family practice, have four children. They run a busy household and, whenever possible, enjoy family vacations in the mountains of California. Jon is a passionate classical music lover and plays the violin and classical guitar. Colin Adams is the Thomas T. Read Professor of Mathematics at Williams College, where he has taught since 1985. He has produced a number of books that make mathematics more accessible and relatable, including How to Ace Calculus and its sequel, How to Ace the Rest of Calculus; Riot at the Calc Exam and other Mathematically Bent Stories; and Zombies & Calculus. Colin co-wrote and appears in the videos "The Great Pi vs. E Debate" and "Derivative vs. Integral: the Final Smackdown."

Adams received his undergraduate degree from MIT and his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin. He had held various grants for research in the area of knot theory and low-dimensional topology and has published numerous research articles. He received the Haimo National Distinguished Teaching Award from the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) in 1998, and the Robert Foster Cherry Teaching Award in 2003. Adams also served as MAA Polya Lecturer (1998-2000), and as Sigma Xi Distinguished Lecturer (2000-2002).
